Appeal against the district court's decision in patent infringement action in Korea

As NGK INSULATORS, LTD. (“NGK”) announced in the news release dated September 19, 2014 entitled "patent infringement action filed in Korea concerning NGK’s patent on a heater for semiconductor manufacturing equipment," NGK filed a patent infringement action against MiCo Ltd. (“MiCo”) with the Seoul Central District Court, seeking to enjoin MiCo from manufacturing and selling in Korea the patented heater for the semiconductor manufacturing equipment (Korean Patent No. 283600 owned by NGK). On September 8, 2016, the Seoul Central District Court, however, rendered a decision dismissing the patent infringement action.

In the decision, it was determined that the defendant's product does not fall within the technical scope of NGK's patented invention. Following the decision, NGK filed an appeal against the decision with the Korean Patent Court on September 8, 2016.
