Sustainable Buildings and Other Leading Projects (Advanced CO2 Emission Reduction Type) are publicly offered projects that have been adopted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as development projects for housing and buildings that will become outstanding leading projects with respect to achieving CO2 emission reduction, and are supported by partial subsidies, including the maintenance costs of the adopted project.

The Mizuho New E1 Building is an administrative- and welfare-functions building scheduled to be built in the Mizuho district inside NGK’s Nagoya Site. The new building will effectively utilize the low-temperature combustion waste heat of up to 250 degrees Celsius discharged from the firing furnace of the adjacent factory, which has hitherto not been used, for the air-conditioning and hot-water supply. In addition, the new building will be a Net-Zero Energy Building (ZEB) that reduces CO2 emissions by 54%, measured against the standards of the Energy Conservation Law, through such features as natural ventilation and natural lighting achieved by the inclusion of a glass-paneled ventilation passage, known as an Eco Void. Furthermore, NGK will install various mechanisms to realize a comfortable working environment, including the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) equipped with radiation cooling and heating, and simulators, and NGK has been assessed regarding such points as the company aiming to achieve a good balance between its CO2 emission reduction measures and its promotion of employees’ health.

Under the NGK Group Guidelines for Corporate Behavior, the NGK Group is committed to supporting the preservation of the global environment and ensuring a comfortable workplace environment in the course of its corporate business activities. The Mizuho New E1 Building has been designed on the basis of these business conduct guidelines. Through the construction and operation of this new building, NGK will achieve both CO2 emission reductions and a comfortable workplace environment. Moreover, NGK will strive to disseminate these features to its offices in the regions and inside plant premises, in the form of various advanced initiatives.
