Actively engaging in various initiatives to realize a sustainable society

NGK Group Social Contribution Activities Policy

1. Basic Approach to Social Contribution Activities

We will help to solve social issues through our business activities in various regions across the globe.
In addition, as a member of society, with the aim of being a corporate citizen trusted by local communities, we will strive to cooperate and collaborate with diverse partners and undertake social contribution activities in response to needs in each region.

2. Main Focus

Based on the NGK Group Philosophy and Vision, we will work on the following areas as the focuses of activity for social contribution.

People and Education

Not only will we convey the joy of monozukuri (manufacturing) to children who will define the future but we will also support educational activities that can develop local communities.

Environment

Based on the NGK Group Environmental Vision, we will proactively engage in harmony with nature, thereby contributing to the preservation of the global environment.

Community Relations

We take an interest in social issues and advance activities aimed at achieving coexistence with local communities as a trusted corporate citizen.Additionally, the NGK Group will participate in efforts to develop appealing communities mainly in countries and regions in which the NGK Group has business sites.

For the purpose of enhancing sensitivity to matters in society, and furthering understanding of diversity and such like, we will encourage all of our employees to take part in social contribution activities and support them by offering them opportunities to experience activities and gain hands-on knowledge.

3. Information Disclosure

We will regularly distribute information on activities to help all employees working in the NGK Group understand the objective of these activities.
Simultaneously, we will disclose information on our initiatives on our website and other media in order to deepen relationships of trust with stakeholders.

Japanese Language Learning Support for Foreign Children Living in Japan

NGK has been offering Japanese language learning support for foreign children living in Japan since 2022. In cooperation with the Aichi Employers' Association and the Central Japan Economic Federation, we provide our facilities to the Isshiki Cosmos Support Study Group (a voluntary organization based in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture) and the MIRAI Project (a general incorporated association based in Handa, Aichi Prefecture). In addition, NGK employees serve as assistant teachers using our volunteer leave system.

Wheelchair Tennis Support Initiatives

NGK has actively supported wheelchair tennis since 2020 as part of our support for persons with disabilities and promotion of local sports.
We assist wheelchair tennis athletes based in Aichi Prefecture in various ways, such as helping to fund their travel both in and outside of Japan. To accommodate wheelchair tennis players and enthusiasts alike, we built a new hard court and made the outdoor restrooms barrier free at the NGK Group company-operated Moronoki Tennis Club (Midori-ku, Nagoya City).
NGK has also concluded an official supporter agreement with the Japan Wheelchair Tennis Association (JWTA), with whom we work to sponsor annual events, competitions, and other opportunities for expanding and developing the sport of wheelchair tennis.

Reforestation Activities: NGK Minnano Mori Mizunami

Responding to the concept of nature positivity, the NGK Group is promoting initiatives that position the conservation and restoration of biodiversity as a critical issue.
We are working to create a rich natural environment through reforestation activities in NGK Minnano Mori Mizunami, a forest owned by NGK in Mizunami, Gifu Prefecture. NGK cooperates with the local government to support the local beekeeping industry, and creates and enhances opportunities to learn about the natural environment.

Science Volunteers Sharing the Joy of Science with Children

NGK, as a manufacturing company, has been introducing the joy of science to children leading the next generation through the "NGK Science Site: Science Experiments You Can Do at Home" series, featured in science magazines like "Newton." TABLE FOR TWO Initiatives

NGK has been participating in the TABLE FOR TWO (“TFT”) program since September 2010. TFT is a volunteer activity in which employees can easily participate. When an employee eats a healthy meal at the company cafeteria, we contribute the equivalent of one meal (20 yen) to children in Africa. The program is active at all NGK cafeterias (eight cafeterias in four areas).
In addition, NGK Yu-Service, NGK Metex, and NGK Fine Molds in the NGK Group participate in the TABLE FOR TWO program through on-site vending machines.
