Materials and techniques

Our materials and techniques create synergies by bringing together differing materials to rapidly produce ceramics of outstanding qualities, controlling properties like ceramic pore diameter (pore size), crystal orientation, thermal conductivity, ion conductivity, and electrical resistance. Based on our thorough familiarity with the mechanical, thermal, electrical, and physical properties of ceramics and adept manipulation of materials into wide ranging configurations, we manufacture just the right products to meet society's needs.

Process techniques

Highly skilled with various molding techniques, including mold casting, extrusion molding, and tape molding, as well as firing and processing techniques, NGK applies these techniques to create various ceramic structures. We also bind metals and other materials to ceramics and develop and manufacture products in various configurations--everything from fine and complex three-dimensional shapes to one of the world's largest porcelain products, measuring 11.5 meters in length.

Mold casting differs from conventional casting, in which clay is formed and fired. It's an entirely new molding method in which a liquid material is introduced to a mold, then simply cooled and hardened. This method makes it possible to create complex and highly precise shapes.
