NGK's core technologies

Our Core Techniques

Materials and techniques

Our materials and techniques create synergies by bringing together differing materials to rapidly produce ceramics of outstanding qualities, controlling properties like ceramic pore diameter (pore size), crystal orientation, thermal conductivity, ion conductivity, and electrical resistance. Based on our thorough familiarity with the mechanical, thermal, electrical, and physical properties of ceramics and adept manipulation of materials into wide ranging configurations, we manufacture just the right products to meet society's needs.

Controlling pore size allows ceramic filters to screen out fluids and gases at the molecular level.

Process techniques

Highly skilled with various molding techniques, including mold casting, extrusion molding, and tape molding, as well as firing and processing techniques, NGK applies these techniques to create various ceramic structures. We also bind metals and other materials to ceramics and develop and manufacture products in various configurations--everything from fine and complex three-dimensional shapes to one of the world's largest porcelain products, measuring 11.5 meters in length.

Mold casting differs from conventional casting, in which clay is formed and fired. It's an entirely new molding method in which a liquid material is introduced to a mold, then simply cooled and hardened. This method makes it possible to create complex and highly precise shapes.

Production techniquesProduce

NGK's many innovative, competitive products come from production equipment we developed using proprietary mass-production techniques and manufacturing know-how. To meet the needs of customers around the world, we quickly deploy new cutting-edge production lines to our overseas locations and build highly efficient global production systems. Additionally, introducing big data analysis to production management improves quality and reduces cost.

Evaluative/analytical techniques

We're constantly working to achieve manufacturing innovations by rapidly incorporating, fusing with our own core techniques, and advancing the latest technologies, including advanced computer simulation technologies that significantly reduce development times and image inspection technologies that help identify the slightest defects.

Research, development, and manufacturing based on superior evaluative/analytical technologies

By skillfully manipulating materials and properties, we provide products and services that help solve various social issues.

Our key strength is the ability to produce various products by combining materials, including porous ceramics and functional ceramics, with our own process techniques involving molding, firing, and processing.
NGK products are designed to control unseen forces like electricity and heat. These products make solid contributions to society in places not always in plain sight. They help create a better environment, future energy sources, and advances in electronics.
